Lo que va por debajo
2024 | MACBA
Directed by Pedro G. Romero
Produced by Nanouk Films & Garde Films
In this project, Pedro G. Romero explores Barcelona’s emerging flamenco scene, with a particular focus on Desvarío, the festival held in the Nou Barris district. The city has played a key role in the history of flamenco in Spain, and the project builds on this historical foundation to chart a new cultural geography.
The film combines recordings of contemporary artists with visits to emblematic sites of flamenco culture in Nou Barris, including the former Hospital de la Santa Creu psychiatric institution—now home to the district headquarters and the festival—as well as local peñas and flamenco schools. The project also delves into the connections between flamenco and Barcelona’s social and neighbourhood movements.
