Laurence Burton lives completely off grid in the remote Tabernas Desert, Spain. He has one last attempt to achieve his lifelong dream: to build an aircraft powered solely on clean energy, using gyroscopes as propellers. Although his ideas seem outrageous at first, little by little Laurence’s life story and the reasons that lead him to build the aircraft unravel; claims of conspiracy surround a four year prison stretch during the 80s; the tragic loss of his first daughter Laura, whilst behind bars still weighs heavily on him; for thirty years he’s had no contact with his youngest daughter, Jenna.

Science Fiction appears as a strong character study, depicting Laurence and his motley crew as archetypes of the original hippie generation that actually stood by the values they believed in almost fifty years ago. Showing the entirety of his journey towards fulfilling his dream serves as a dramatic backdrop, allowing us to understand his intricacies. This is not a film about a nutcase who wants to magically build a flying saucer, but rather a clever individual who wants to scientifically test if gyroscopes can be used as propellers. On a deeper level, it’s a film about a man close to the end of his life, struggling to find closure to a troubled family legacy.
